The Twelfth Holy Night:

At Home with Basements

From our light-bathed gardens, we go to the dark deep basements of our soul.

Can you imagine taking your spiritual companion into your basements? Yes, there are more than one.  Each of us has a series of deeper and deeper basements of hidden aspects of ourselves. Aspects that we don't see, or feel, or connect with.

Here our spiritual companion carries a flashlight or rather a luminous candle flame, sending light into the most hidden and most mysterious places in our souls.

How appropriate on this last night of the Holy Nights we go to the deepest, darkest, most hidden homes of our soul.

I don't know what to write. I don't know what metaphors can inspire or guide the imaginations of the basements.

I don't know where the door to my many basements is.  Maybe that is what I need to implore of my spiritual companion...Please, guide me to the door to my basements! Let me open it! Descend with me!

Basements are the foundations of self. Everything that holds me up in the world lives in my basements.  Why should I not want to go there?

Why? Because there is so much there waiting for the light of self-love. This withholding of self love is why we need our spiritual companions.  They will love us in the places we don't love ourselves, in the great strong necessary basements of our soul.

The Holy Nights wisdom of the basements reveals the more you penetrate the darkness, the deeper you go, the more enlightened you become.
