Before we look at the 5th Impression, I must address a concern of mine. I am afraid many of you are reading these messages on the computer whenever you are checking your emails. Please don't do that!!!

Here is my suggestion for working with the Inner Christmas messages most consciously and most productively.

  • Print out the message without even reading it.
  • In the the Inner Christmas Guidelines I offer thoughts on designing the sacred process for your Holy Nights: the space, time, environment for your contemplations.
  • Read the messages when and where you are able to devote your attention to the experience with the most beauty and harmony of feeling.

Your inner life deserves this sacredness.

Devoted Attention - the Fifth Impression of I

(In some way, I always find devotion weaving into the Inner Christmas Messages each year. When the veils that separate our souls from spiritual realities lift, devotion is present.)

In the mood of Nativity, we find three central figures, the child, the mother, and the father. With the 5th impression the mood finds inspiration in the maternal.

How does the I-beyond-consciousness mother your soul?

I found a painting by Leonardo that does more through an image then I could ever do with words expressing the impression of I as devoted attention.

Madonna Litta by Leonardo

Suggestions:

Spend some time experiencing this painting by Leonardo. See the way the Madonna is holding the child with her gaze, her arms, her heart. Feel the intimacy and tenderness with which she unselfishly and calmly supports the child as he looks out into the world. Doesn't he seem to be eager to leap into the world of destiny!

Notice the two vistas behind them. Is one earthly reality and the other spiritual reality?

Do you see this is as a confident mother devoted to the destiny of her child? A spiritual I unconditionally devoted to the ordinary I.

Now imagine all of the spiritual world holding and supporting your soul and feeding you milk filled with your I-beyond-consciousness with devoted attention. Imagine the nourishment strengthening your capacity for truth and goodness.

And then imagine your soul holding and supporting the subject of your devoted attention, nourishing your goals, your relationships, your creativity, your confidence.

Finally, consider how you attend with maternal devotion to the needs of others, nature, the world, and the future.

Your soul carries both feminine and masculine/maternal and paternal impressions. In a few nights we will begin looking at the paternal impressions of the I.

Your Inner Christmas is yours alone.  Each year we birth ourselves anew during the Holy Nights.  No one else can experience this for us or with  us.  It is my hope that each Inner Christmas message supports your new inner birth.

But what you experience in the glory of your inner solitude, can be shared with others if you carefully and thoughtfully write about it.

Your descriptions, your insights, particularly your questions can be living inspirations for others.  Please leave your comment, knowing it blesses others - not everyone, but someone will be encouraged by your courage.  Your willingness to be vulnerable, transparent and luminous changes the future.  Please leave comments on the blog: http://innerchristmasmessages.com

The Inner Christmas messages are not the inner work of the Holy Nights. They are invitations or gateways into the your inner work. Let them inspire you.

Each message addresses a topic based on the theme of the year. I offer a creative exploration of the topic, and a number of questions to consider around the topic. Let them serve as a way to find your individual relationship to the topic and a new, clarifying, liberating perspective on yourself and the mysteries of being human and becoming I.

The messages are not definitive, they are encouraging.

Reading the messages is not the experience of the Holy Nights. The Holy Nights are a cosmic experience that can only be felt within your own soul. Be confident and seek YOUR Holy Nights.
