The First Holy Night - The Gift of Nourishment
Published: Sun, 12/25/11

The theme for the Eighth Year of Inner Christmas Messages is
The Twelve Gifts.
Human life runs its course in the metamorphosisbetween receiving and giving.GoetheThe First Gift ~ NourishmentHow do you receive Nourishment ?How do you give Nourishment?
You cannot appreciate, actually receive, a gift unless the need for it is living within your soul. If you are fully nourished you do not need nourishment and cannot perceive the value of nourishment. This is why even when you are full of virtue, you desire more.
Are there things that you always need? Things that you never get enough of? Is there ever enough love? enough freedom? What else does your soul always need more of? Make a list.
Nourishment keeps you alive. Soul nourishment offers truth to your thinking, beauty to your feeling and goodness to your willing. All three keep your soul alive. Can you imagine your soul living in the absence of truth, beauty and goodness?
Hunger weakens? What feeds and strengthens your soul?
The Holy Nights are a feast for your soul.
The root of nourish is Latin for feed, cherish. Nourishment gives your soul the feeling of being cherished.
Who or what in your life has nourished your soul so tenderly and powerfully that you felt cherished? Who or what have you nourished and cherished?
In the relaxed, sacred solitude of this first Holy Night, be nourished and cherished in just the right way. Receive so that you may give.
I encourage you to write about your feelings and insights about receiving and giving nourishment. The spiritual world is nourished by our willed contemplations. To write thoughtfully, with deep feeling, swaddles your Holy Nights contemplations with the warmth of will.
No matter how old you are, how smart your are, how spiritual you are, you have probably never been asked to consider your inner life from this perspective. You will probably want to ignore the challenge of these questions. Yet your heart is also saying to you, "This is important." Only you can choose to take up this inner work.
I do want to share with you, that simply reading these messages and noticing your feelings about their content, will make a difference. The moment you take these thoughts and questions seriously, they quicken a soul force in you. This soul force then draws toward you the loving interest of spiritual beings.
Part of my own spiritual and moral quest this year has been to have thoughts and conversations that would be of interest to spiritual beings. What could I say, how could you and I engage in such a way that an angel or an archangel would want to listen, to notice, to engage with?
During the Holy Nights, spiritual beings are hungering for human souls to work with questions and thoughts that lead to inner development. Bless you for nourishing them.
I invite you share your sense of nourishment, your understanding of being cherished and cherishing, with the Inner Christmas Community. To leave a comment, click here.
The Inner Christmas messages are not the inner work of the Holy Nights. They are invitations or gateways into the Holy Nights.
Each message has a topic based on the theme of the
year. I offer a creative exploration of the topic, and a number of
questions to consider around the topic as a way to find your individual
relationship to the topic and a new, clarifying, liberating perspective
on yourself.
The messages are not definitive, they are encouraging.
Reading the messages is not the experience of the Holy Nights. The Holy Nights are a cosmic experience that can only be felt within your own soul. Be confident and know they are YOUR Holy Nights.
