Your Light In the World

Published: Thu, 02/03/11

Hello to you,

As I write this post it is February 2, Candlemas in the Christian festivals.  Candlemas celebrates the purification of Mary, 40 days after giving birth and the presentation of the baby Jesus at the Temple. The baby Jesus is welcomed by Simeon who proclaims him a light for the world. What could this possibly mean to you in the 21st Century?

A lot, if you are willing to be both mother and babe as you seek  the meaning, purpose and significance of your existence. It's about discovering the light you bring to the world? You DO light the world!

Here is a Candlemas writing meditation for this week.

A Candlemas Meditation

First, settle into yourself, into your body with relaxed breath and let a calm, centered peace arise in you. It may take a couple of minutes to feel the embodied peace.

Then begin to write in your thoughts and feelings about purification and/or presentation.  What do these two inner deeds mean and signify to you?  Write a personal definition for purification and presentation.  You may want to write more than one definition for each. Then begin to write down questions for yourself. Be patient and the answers will come, some quickly, some over days or months or years.  Meanwhile you will be building a living imagination of yourself.

Give yourself time to work with this Candlemas meditation. (You can use this throughout your year.) It is very powerful to develop the capacity to purify your consciousness and present your gifts.  Your life will be filled with contribution.

Here are the questions found in my heart as I did the Candlemas meditation.

My purifying questions:
Is there truth in my thinking? Do I birth right concepts as I seek my meaning?
Is there beauty and harmony in my feelings? Do I hold right feelings in my significant heart?
Is there goodness in my daily deeds, even the boring ones? Do I take right action and speak right speech as I fulfill my purpose in the world?

My presentation questions:
How do I bring the gesture of my new being to the meeting of spirit and matter?
Do I see my light?
Do I need recognition and celebration?
Who holds me and presents me to God and the World?

With every question you imagine, celebrate your Inner Candlemas mood.

You can also do this meditation together with a good friend and share your thoughts about your lights with each other.  There is nothing like a sacred conversation to brighten your light.
