I went out to get the paper this morning and walked by the lamp post. The lamp post is totally hidden by an outrageous clematis filled with hundreds of buds. I've been watching the clematis intently the last few days as I wanted to witness the buds bloom.
Today the first dusty purple bloom unfurled. Yea! What a delight. I spent the last couple of months watching the first green shoots of spring lengthen and curl as they surrounded the lamp post. I saw the incredible number of buds form and fill with the growing secret of the bloom. Then overnight the magic unfurling happens, the bud opens and becomes the flower.
the unfurling world and our unfurling souls
Unfurl is such a great verb. When something unfurls, it spreads out and unrolls or unfolds. I so love witnessing the unfurling in the souls and daily lives of my clients . The same summer longing to unfurl that lives in the clematis lives in our souls.
In the summer our souls can unfurl in two wonderful ways. Our senses can unfold to perceive everything with greater balance, beauty and benefit. Our souls can unroll a clearer personal sense of direction and purpose in the world. The world spreads out before us and we prepare to spread out into the world.
In the summer our souls come to know the world through our sensory wakefulness and our souls come to perceive our place and our individual role in the world through exploring meaningful questions. both the outer and inner perceptions lead us to new thoughts, new feelings and new intentions. The more consciousness you bring to your senses and your sense of self, the richer your life becomes.
If you are reading this, you are well aware that consciousness is not a given. Consciousness requires attention, discipline, development and lots and lots of questions.
In the course of the Inner Year, we work with certain questions at certain times of the year. We attend to the various expressions and forms of consciousness living in certain aspects of being human. We commit to the discipline of participating in regular conversations and practicing particular exercises. We recognize that development is a life long process of unfurling, so we seek evolution, not perfection in our life journey. Our seeing is always a new seeing and our being is always a becoming. Consciousness unfurls consciously!
Inner Summer is the time to restore, engage, and enrich our senses and our sense of self. To enrich your soul's senses and your soul's sense of self I am offering the following teleseminars:

I've been studying and meditating on the Twelve Senses for almost twenty years. Yes, twelve senses, not Aristotle's five we learned in our school books, and not the over two hundred that modern neuroscientists name. I will be sharing with you my understanding of the twelve senses named and briefly described by Rudolf Steiner. I love the twelve senses. They make sense of everything and everyone.
-
four senses shape our perceptions of self and our ability to incarnate and embody our being,
-
four senses shape our perceptions of ourselves in the world as observers and participants, and
-
four senses shape our perceptions of the our fellow human beings and the exquisite expressions of consciousness.
Beautifully archetypal, all twelve senses paint the canvas of our soul.
I could probably offer forty hours on these twelve "doors of perception" and how to cleanse them for sensing the truth, beauty, and goodness of our earthly existence, but that would be too much of a good thing. Instead, I will offer creative and meaningful descriptions of each of the senses, share how the development of our senses color and cripple our psyches, and how sensory distortions and delusions can be recognized and corrected. I will suggest exercises for healing, balancing and strengthening all twelve senses.
"Nothing can cure the soul but the senses,
just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul."
Oscar Wilde
I only offer this teleseminar each year following the Summer Solstice. Not because I am rigid, but because I am learning that following the cycle of the Inner Year creates the richest and most transformative experience for the healing, liberating, strengthening and unfurling of your soul. "To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven." The Inner Year, inspired by nature and the Christian Festivals, illuminates and supports the seasons and purposes of your soul.
Here's a silly but appropriate metaphor. I love turkey and eat it throughout the year. But turkey is so much more than turkey when it is eaten on Thanksgiving Day. When I teach the senses in the sensory fullness of summer, the teaching/learning is so much more - the whole cosmos supports the teaching and the learning.

The Inner Year finds inspiration and guidance in the festivals of the Christian year. At the summer solstice we find the festival of St John's Tide, the celebration of the birth of John the Baptist.
John the Baptist is called the Precursor or Forerunner. He is not the Messiah or the Christ, he comes before to prepare the way and declare the arrival. When we do the inner work inspired by John the Baptist, we consider who we are as precursors of who we are becoming.
John the Baptist declared himself "a voice crying in the wilderness." Crying for what? What are you crying out for? What are your questions?
Your questions cry out to the you you are becoming, to your inner divinity. When we find our true questions about who we are in our work, in our relationships and in our lifestyles, we begin to find our way out of the wilderness of our souls. There is an African proverb: "The one who asks questions doesn't lose his way" Each Inner Summer we come to a point of choosing how we will live until the next summer. Ask the right questions and you will not get lost.
I have designed Perceiving My Self and Finding My Questions in three parts:
intimacy,
contribution and
balance.
We need to be clear about our questions concerning relationships. You are you in relationship to your lover, your parents, your children, your siblings, your friends? What are you seeking through relationships? What will heal your relationship wounds? How do you feel in solitude?
We need to be clear about our questions concerning our endeavors and the difference we make in the world. Where are you authentic in your work and your creativity? What do you want to stop doing? Are you fulfilling your destiny and making the most of your talents? What do you want to accomplish this year? How do you learn from failure? What is your relationship to money? What encumbers your will?
We need to be clear about our questions concerning balance in our lives. Where is your life out of balance? Can you say no to expectations? Do you think too much? Are you too busy? Do you spend enough time in nature? Do you spend enough time contemplating spiritual matters? Do you play enough?
The above are just a few questions that will inspire your questions.
Each teleseminar stands alone. You can participate in one, two or all three. I offer a discount if you want to do all three.
Just imagine how a clear sense of your questions will inspire thoughtful self-expression in the coming year.
Each 4 part teleseminar will guide you in determining your true questions for who you are right now. Once you have your questions, you can begin to find your answers and come to understand and evolve your thoughts, your feelings and your intentions. Your ability to manage and transform your life will become healthier. You will find more truth, beauty and goodness appearing in your daily life.
Knowing the questions of your life and living in your soul right now is the beginning of liberation from the past and gives you the direction for your next step or next few steps. Learning how to find your questions, gives you the skills to keep you moving toward your destiny, without meaningless detours. You may take detours but they will be rich with meaning and new questions.
During each 90 minute session I will offer a perspectives and insights on the topic before we begin sharing our stories, mysteries and challenges. I will be asking all the participants to respond to key questions and share their experience arising from the homework. The combination of the content and the sharing will be truly engaging and inspiring. Together, with the help of our angels, we will welcome the surprises and the epiphanies that awaken in our hearts.
In between the 90 minute sessions, you will have homework which will require about 30-60 minutes of your time to complete. You will partner with another participant and between the sessions you and your partner will have one or more conversations about the homework. If you will miss a session, you will have the recording within 24 hours, so you will be able to follow through with the homework and with the partner conversation.
"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions"
Rainer Maria Rilke
