6 days until the beginning of Advent
Dearest, Sweet
Friend,
I hope you will join me on the Inner Christmas Journey. It will be a sweet journey this year. The theme for the 12 Messages from the Threshold is
The Twelve Sweet Gifts.
Many of us have struggled with bitterness over the last few years. We need to spend the Holy Nights tasting the sweetness of the
spirit.
Let’s look at the deed of “sweetening” in
the soul. We don’t need a sweetness that briefly masks the bitterness of our times, of our lives. We need sweetness that reveals the lesson, the healing, the opportunity, or the wisdom that lives in the bitter.
I began contemplating this Inner Christmas theme of Sweetness when I was inspired to write about The Nutcracker Ballet. In this ballet, Clara, the adolescent girl, has a Christmas dream about visiting the Land of Sweets where she is crowned Princess. Prior to the the Land of Sweets she has seen her precious gift carelessly broken and
fought the evil, greedy Mouse King. Bitter experiences that she had to integrate in order to mature and find love.
Ah, maturity! The soul’s sweetness leads to maturity. Maturity doesn’t run away from the bitter. Maturity is the sweet wisdom that makes us creative, vibrant, relaxed, and confident when perceiving the unpleasant, the difficult, the threatening, the strange, the boring, and the overwhelming.
Bitterness will strengthen and heal, but it is difficult to experience unless sweet is added.
The Winter Solstice and Christmas come at a time of year that is often bitterly cold and dark. So human beings have always found a way to sweeten the cold, dark days with ritual and celebration. The Inner Christmas Journey offers an inner ritual and celebration.
Over the Twelve Holy Nights, I will be sharing thoughts on the sweetening gifts from the spiritual world. The gifts sweeten our twelve ways of perceiving ourselves, the world, and each
other.
Inner sweetness melts the hardness of our lives. Inner sweetness provides renewal of the tenderness of our relationships. Inner
sweetness is the source of our resilience.
The Holy Nights always
provide the spiritual renewal of our inner sweetness.
