Jane's Invitation
I just signed up for the Equanimity Workshop and here's why.
The process of equanimity is really the process of moving toward selfhood, of bringing consciousness to the unconscious. In this undertaking we commit the courageous and radical act of becoming more fully ourselves, more fully human. Human beings are meant, one day in the future, to fully embody Love and Freedom; this is not going to be the veneer of love, the illusion
of freedom nor a commandment we must obey.
Love thy neighbor? How can we truly and deeply do this when we can’t welcome, tolerate or befriend our own chaos and trauma let alone another's? This achievement is a many lifetime pursuit and my question to myself is: Am I willing to leave my cozy predictability, my habits of othering, contempt and blame, fear, superiority and spiritual bypassing, my victim narratives and
separateness etc. Am I willing to see how the seductive pleasure of feasting on the bottomless buffet of knowledge, the incessant thirst to know, is a pleasurable trap if it remains impersonal. Likewise we surely see signs everyday that our exhaustion of material resources - including our internal resources - is a trap if alienated from the interconnection of all living beings. I've learned that in the process of growing my capacity to tolerate my own inner reactions and moving toward
the wisdom contained within them I've also grown muscles to welcome and tolerate others with more equanimity. Where I remain unconscious, and abide in the impersonal, the theoretical, the chaos and drama of the world and myself - running from, fighting off, playing dead or freezing in the face of my undigested self, the projections of shadow and distortions of light I am human animal and yes, we are all still mostly human animal. How do we wake up more of
our higher capacities, our spiritual birthright? I may not be able to do anything else but at least I can move towards self connection, towards my humanity, with tenderness and with reverence. The Equanimity Workshop helps us get there.
Having worked on this method with Lynn through several archetypal lenses I know that this is a method that includes and welcomes, with interest, all that we are and all that we’ve learned about ourselves - in therapy, in dance or breathwork, in eurythmy and in meditation, prayer and art class and whatever other vast explicit knowledge we’ve amassed. It includes our somatic
experience, our felt sense, our individual biography and our personal biology - everything we’ve come to understand is vital when we begin to behold how the universal archetypes work in our individual ecosystems. This work is intimate, relatable and personal! Nothing is wasted.
And this work is absolutely generative - meaning it enlivens our thinking and imagination and grows capacity in us for the next adventure inward.
Lynn is a master facilitator with an amazing ability for original thought and living questions. She is so genuinely capable to hold reverence for all that emerges and bring it together in fresh and alive understanding.
Yes, it’s scary to begin. And yet, if you’ve read this far consider this your personal invitation. Your commitment to becoming more familiar with your inner chaos promises to change the world and I sincerely hope you'll join me in this exploration.
