POSSIBILITY & PERMISSION
I always loved the idea of May Day. The sweet and simple rhyme of the two words, May and Day, probably has something to do with this feeling that still fills my soul whenever I think of May Day.
Day symbolizes daylight. Bright and warm and nourishing. Time for play and pleasure.
May symbolizes possibility and permission. May I? May I bloom?
May also fills me with a sense of magic. October gives me a mood of mystery, but May offers magic, the magic of warmth, of light, and of harmonies. So different from the dramas of April. May magic feels soft, even tender, to me.
I realize my perceptions of May come from a life in the Northern Temperate Zone. I hope my friends in the Southern Hemisphere will tell me if May feels mysterious to them with the growing darkness and chill.
THE GLAMOROUS MONTH
May can also be glamorous. I am fascinated by glamor so I love the Met Gala https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Met_Gala when I can watch the arrivals of the celebrities in costumes of extraordinary, over-the-top glamor on one of the most glamorous staircases in the world. The Gala supports the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which
curates exhibits of fashion.
Can you imagine creating an exhibit of the costumes of your soul? Imagine the clothing of your will…would your will wear leather or silk? And your truth would the fabrics be translucent? And what jewels would sparkle to decorate your shadows? Or perhaps your Cinderella soul is more comfortable in rags or jeans than the ballgown.
THE THOROUGHBRED MONTH
And I love the glamor of a thoroughbred racehorse and the Kentucky Derby. Thoroughbreds are bred for agility, speed and spirit. I can imagine my soul as the part of my consciousness that has agility, speed and spirit! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoroughbred
THE INNER MAYPOLE
Bouquets, Queens and Dances. These May symbols seem to celebrate the feminine and gracefulness. I could write so much about the perfume and form of Lily of the Valley. I wish I had the time to write a poem about the Queen of May as she reigns over the innocence in my soul or the wild sexual urges celebrating my fertile longings.
But I want to share the Imagine Self inspiration of the Inner Maypole Dance and the over and under weaving of the many colored ribbons wrapping the maypole with its crown of flowers. I can see every element of the Maypole Dance as part of our sense of self. If we think of the dancers moving in opposite directions, I can see the one direction being the dancers of spirit and the other direction being the dancers of matter. All the ribbons (your
thoughts) and all the dancers (your will) are equally beautiful as they go over and under weaving around the pole of Self. But ribbons get dropped, torn or twisted, dancers can trip, fall or lose focus...nothing is simple or certain. At some moment this month, fix yourself a bowl of strawberries and cream or a mint julep and imagine your soul’s ribbons and dancers and see what you learn about yourself. Create a collage or a poem.
INNER PEACE AND INNER BATTLES
If we move from the beginning of May to the end of the month, May also brings the horrors of war to our consciousness here in America. We celebrate Memorial Day, the day we remember those who died in wars at the hands of enemies. As a soul activity, we could imagine little moments truth, beauty, and goodness being killed…by what enemies? Imagine your soul as a battlefield and a cemetery. We all deal with inner wars and often need to bury dreams and ideals
for not surviving our soul battles. Don’t deny this. Face these realities and then imagine a new inner peace.
VE Day is May 8th (WW2 Victory in Europe 1945) celebrates the ending of Fascism and a new recognition of Freedom. Look at the fascism in your personal life. (Definition:a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible
suppression of opposition) I have inner Lynns that are fascist that hold the past as supreme over my future, that hold me back from courageous self-expression, that control me with fear and doubt. Oh, yes, I want to do battle in my soul everyday…I want to be free. Do you?
May brings life and death to our souls. Honor both.
THE MONTH OF MOTHERS
Mothers and motherhood are celebrated in May in most of the world. Everyone of us was mothered. We all came to be in a mother’s womb. Even if we suffered with a mother who for any number of reasons could not meet our needs for affection and attention, it was her womb and her pain that gave birth to each of us. In all souls, male and female and binary, there is a continual mothering going on…Inner Mothering. How do we comfort our souls?
PENTECOST AND UNIVERSAL LOVE
Pentecost. Most years the Christian Holy Day of Pentecost comes in late May. This year it is the 31st. This is the festival of universal love when all languages are understood by all listeners. Imagine being fully understood because the person listening has emptied their soul of their own language, narrative, beliefs and judgments and became open to all that you are. Imagine just a moment of this. Are you willing to listen to another this way?
Years of sacred conversations have strengthened this pure listening in me…it only comes in moments. In those moments I often hear the voice of my client’s angel through the words and pictures my client is speaking. At first this was confusing because I did not have a living imagination of Pentecost. But as I kept asking inner questions, I began to understand the experience.
Last year I offered a free webinar on Inner Pentecost. It was recorded and is still available for watching/listening. Just click on this link and sign in https://theimagineselfacademy.com/courses/75/about.
Note: I apologize for the tech problems. The double audio ends at about 5 minutes. There is a double image of me which lasts for the whole webinar. You can download the mp4 file and also the entire set of slides.
May brings many blessings to your soul if you are willing to do the inner work.
