2023 Hi Dear Wonderful Soul, I have my calendars for June, July, and August in front of me. The first thing I am doing is the Sabbath planning. I contemplate my days of rest and reflection. But I think there is another Sabbath - the day of
contemplating intention and design. Yes, Genesis left out describing the waking up to the Cosmic Intention and Divine Plan. Earthly existence didn’t emerge out of a dream or a whim. Your summer of self-imagining won’t just happen, just come and go. You need clear intention, clear design, and commitment. Looking AheadWhat do you want from this season? Can you look ahead to September and see an
self more evolved than it is now? Not just older, not just more memories, but a more liberated and empowered, more sovereign self? Will you have become more you? I am asking you to look ahead and providing you with a gift to support you in designing the most meaningful summer of your life because you deserve it! You are worthy of becoming more you.
I was inspired by an essay I
read last week. Being over 50 by a long shot, I’ve been a member of AARP for a long time. I love the monthly magazine which is always practical and inspiring. One feature, Real People, shares a number of brief essays by people over fifty on how they are living
their lives through creative choices, surprising careers, or heroic deeds. This month includes an essay by a woman, Diane Branagan, who is an animal trainer for TV and movies. She focuses on horses. Not only does she train the animals but she also trains the actors (Helen Mirren, for example). I found so much wisdom in what she said “Any horse trainer will tell you that you have to look where you’re going, not where you’ve been. When horses are pulling a buggy or wagon, the driver really has to look ahead on the road, so
they can send the horses to that point. If the driver is looking directly down at the horses, there is no guidance for them. That’s like driving the car while looking at the steering wheel." I don’t know about you, but there are times in my life when I feel I am driving 16 horses pulling a huge carriage and I can’t see ahead. When I feel this way, I know I need to stop. I need to get centered and go back to the big question…where am I going and how am I getting there? I have also spent over 35 years, working on this centering challenge. It is not just O Human Soul, Know Thyself. It’s O Human Soul, Know where you are going…what you want…how to prepare
for the journey … and how to reflect on the experience.
So I have created a little workbook for you to look at the 90 days of summer as a journey of clear intention. It’s a pdf for you to print out. Just click the button at the end of

Take a few moments to reflect on the horse and wagon
metaphor. Imagine the driver holding the reins constantly making micro-adjustments and occasional macro-moves to keep everything rolling and upright. The road is bumpy and has ruts. The attention and reaction of the driver needs to be calm and centered so she can manage the complexity of the process.
